Pursuing a PhD provided me with the opportunity to deepen my knowledge in my chosen field, to work closely with experienced supervisors, and to develop the skills required for independent research. Most importantly, my publications allow me to showcase Taiwan to the international academic community.

The PhD journey has been both challenging and rewarding. On the academic side, the program offered rigorous training in research methodologies, critical thinking, and scholarly writing. Regular seminars and workshops enriched my perspective and allowed me to exchange ideas with peers and professors.

Beyond academics, campus life was equally enriching. I had the chance to interact with colleagues from diverse backgrounds, which broadened my cultural and intellectual horizons. While there were moments of pressure and uncertainty, the supportive academic community and friendships I developed made the experience both meaningful and memorable.

A PhD offers me the opportunity to engage in critical thinking, develop advanced methodological expertise, and contribute new insights to the academic community. As a lecturer at the School of Hospitality and Tourism, Hue University, Vietnam, beyond personal growth, my motivation is also driven by a sense of responsibility to bring fresh perspectives to my field and to inspire students and colleagues through teaching and collaborative research. Pursuing my PhD at YZU, Taiwan, allows me not only to gain high-quality academic training but also to experience a new culture and way of life in Taiwan, which further broadens my perspectives both personally and professionally. I am also honored to have received the Elite Scholarship from the Ministry of Education in Taiwan, which has provided me with important financial support and encouragement throughout my PhD journey.

Study and campus life experience in the PhD program

Regarding the academic program, I was able to take courses that provided a solid foundation for my research. The professors are highly knowledgeable, supportive, and always willing to share their expertise to guide us in developing our own research ideas. Their dedication inspired me to approach my PhD journey with greater motivation.

How has the PhD program helped your professional or career development?

The PhD program has significantly contributed to my academic growth and professional development. One of the most meaningful milestones was when my research proposal, developed through coursework at YZU, was accepted and funded by the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (KU), allowing me to participate in a research camp in Germany during my second year of the PhD. There, I had the opportunity to present my work, expand my academic network, and gain unforgettable experiences in Europe. After the program, I was fortunate to be featured in the KU magazine.

With the solid foundation built through coursework and under the guidance of my advisor, Professor Ja-Shen Chen, we published two SSCI Q1 journal articles in my third year. In addition, I also appreciate the support from the university and my professor, who encouraged me to attend the ISPIM Conference in Osaka, Japan, in 2024. This event provided me with a valuable platform to discuss my research with international scholars, receive constructive feedback, and engage in valuable academic exchange.

These achievements, though small milestones, not only strengthened my research capacity but also gave me greater confidence as a junior researcher, serving as a strong motivation for me to keep pushing forward with further meaningful research. I am deeply grateful to Taiwan and to the College of Management at YZU for giving me the opportunity to pursue my PhD. Although the journey has been full of challenges, the knowledge, experiences, and support I have received here have been truly meaningful and form a valuable foundation for my future academic path.
